Chapter Ten
Follow my voice, I could hear Moriâs voice echo in my non-existent head. And follow the light.
Amid the inky void before me, a tiny pinhole appeared and began emitting a bright white light.
Iâm taking you both to one of the most isolated parts of the astral realm, Moriâs voice rang out softly. That way, even if Gideon is in here, he wonât be able to get to you. Not quickly, anyway.
Relief flooded my bodiless form, and I allowed myself to float through the nothing and toward Moriâs distant voice.
The empty void slowly started to morph into a purple galaxy, and stars began to zoom past my head at supersonic speed. I felt a breeze on my formless face as I soared through space until a burst of white light filled my vision.
I tumbled on top of some sort of soft surface, and I slowly opened my eyes to take in my surroundings.
Atticus was opposite me on his knees as he also gathered his bearings, and as I looked around, I realized we were on some sort of celestial battleground. Dark purple sand made up the floor, which explained my soft landing, and it looked like we were on a hunk of sandy rock floating through the cosmos. Purple galaxies and bright pink and white stars beamed down all around us and enclosed us in a space that felt entirely unreal.
After the initial awe, I slowly picked myself up off the ground, and Atticus did the same.
My body had fully materialized now, and I was wearing the clothes Iâd been in when I entered. It would seem this plane affected us physically because I was covered in the purple sand Iâd faceplanted into a few moments ago, so I shook some of it off my jeans and cracked my neck in preparation for whatever Atticus was gonna throw my way.
I had a few Dreamer powers I could use. The first and most promising one was my mind-reading ability.
If I could get inside Atticusâ head and psych him out, then I might stand a chance at throwing him off.
My invisibility power was kinda obsolete in this circumstance. I doubt Iâd be able to hide from my own memories, and it didnât really allow me any kind of counter to his power.
I needed to think of a way to be able to beat him and win this thing. I had my telekinesis, so I could throw him around like a ragdoll and hope that threw him off enough to surrender, but other than that, there wasnât much I could do with my Dreamer powers.
Of course this guy picked the one pillar that would be the hardest to beat with my array of powers.
Using my fists for a Dreamer trial probably wouldnât be up to code, so Iâd just have to figure it out along the way.
âYou ready to do this?â Atticus asked me, and his voice echoed endlessly.
âYeah,â I said, and I could hear my own voice echo all around us, too. âLetâs get this over with.
